Success Stories: Naturalization approved for Filipina green card holder with Form N-648 Medical Disability Exception

Photo by Jordan Crawford on Unsplash. Naturalization is the process by which US citizenship is granted to a foreign citizen or national after meeting certain requirements.

We recently had an approval for naturalization (getting U.S. Citizenship) for a Philippine national who is a permanent resident (green card holder) with Form N-648 Medical Certification for Disability Exception at the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Queens Field Office, without a request for evidence. Congratulations to our client!

Our client was a senior citizen who met the English Language Exception, which would have allowed her to take the civics test in her native language. However, our client also had a medical disability. We submitted Form N-648, Medical Certification for Disability Exceptions with her naturalization application, which exempted her from the English or civics requirements entirely. She was called in for an interview in less than two months after the receipt of her N-400 application at USCIS and after a thorough interview, she was approved for naturalization. She is now a U.S. citizen, less than 6 months after her case was received at USCIS.

Most naturalization applications are relatively straightforward, as long as the applicant meets the requirements. However, there are special cases such as the three-year expedited naturalization process for spouses of U.S. citizens and those with unique considerations such as a medical disability exception, like our client.
