If you are preparing to submit an immigration application this autumn, take note of an important upcoming payment update.

On September 30, 2026, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) issued a Federal Register notice announcing minor, inflation-adjusted fee increases for select H.R. 1 (One Big Beautiful Bill Act) immigration benefits for Fiscal Year 2027. These mandatory annual adjustments reflect a roughly 3.36% inflation shift calculated between July 2025 and July 2026.

The new fee amounts officially take effect on October 16, 2026.

Here is a breakdown of what is changing, which filings are impacted, and what you must do to avoid an automatic rejection at the mailbox.

The New FY 2027 Fee Table

The table below outlines the specific H.R. 1 immigration benefit fees going up starting October 16:

What You Need to Know: The Postmark Rule

The single most important factor for these updated fees is your application's postmark date.

  • Mailed before October 16, 2026: Applications postmarked on or before October 15 can be submitted with the previous fee amounts.

  • Mailed on or after October 16, 2026: Any benefit request requiring one of these specific H.R. 1 fees that is postmarked on or after October 16 must include the new fee amount.

If you mail an application on or after October 16 without the updated fee, USCIS will automatically reject your submission. Even an underpayment of just a few dollars will cause your entire filing package to be sent back, forcing you to resubmit and risking critical filing deadlines or gaps in work authorization.

Key Action Steps

  1. Check your postmarks: If you are preparing an affected filing near mid-October, double-check your ship date. When in doubt, include the new fee to prevent unnecessary rejections.

  2. Confirm category eligibility: Make sure to verify whether your specific Form I-765 or Form I-131 category falls under these H.R. 1 provisions.

  3. Verify updated forms: Consult Form G-1055 (USCIS Fee Schedule) directly on the official USCIS website prior to mailing any package.

If you have questions about filing timelines or need assistance verifying your package before mailing, reach out to an experienced immigration attorney to ensure your filing moves forward smoothly.
